How many motion capture cameras do I need?
Camera count depends on room dimensions, lens coverage, mounting positions, performer count, and the movements you need to capture. Use this planner to explore layouts and areas with too few views. Its automatic count estimate is a starting point, not a purchase recommendation: reliable tracking also depends on viewing angles, marker visibility, and calibration.
Can I plan an OptiTrack camera layout?
Yes. Start with supported OptiTrack PrimeX or SlimX camera presets, then move individual cameras, change mounting heights and aim, or exclude positions you cannot use. Choose Baseline 41, Baseline 37, Core 50, or Conventional 39 reference marker sets. This independent Form Volumes tool does not replace Motive calibration or a manufacturer-approved system design.
What does the motion capture coverage heatmap show?
The heatmap estimates camera views at the selected height across the working area, including simplified obstruction by other performers. The live view checks markers on moving reference bodies. It does not model self-occlusion, marker pixel size, reflections, or camera-pair triangulation quality. A green or blue region is not a guarantee of accurate tracking.
Can I save or share my camera plan?
Yes. Save a layout on your device, download and import a plan file, or copy a share link. Print a report or save it as a PDF through your browser, including room dimensions, coverage estimates, and a camera position and aim schedule. You can also send the configuration to Form Volumes for a system review.
